Read more details about each of our services below.
WordPress Updates
WordPress updates their core software every few months. Some hosting companies automatically update you to the latest version which is both good and bad. If your plugins aren’t up-to-date then the upgrade might break your site.
The process is simple:
- Backup
- Upgrade
- Verify
- Fix as needed, rollback if necessary
WordPress Core Updates
We upgrade your site in a controlled manner to the latest stable version and check for problems with your plugins or themes.
WordPress Plugin Updates
We upgrade your free plugins (e.g., Contact Form 7, W3 Total Cache, Yoast SEO) to the latest version and verify that they still work. If you have premium plugins (e.g., Slider Revolution, Gravity Forms, BackupBuddy) we can update those too however you will have to give us the files or allow us to access your account in order to download the latest plugin.
WordPress Theme Updates
Depending on where you got your WordPress theme you might need fairly frequent updates. Sites like themeforest.net update their themes regularly. And while you don’t need every update that comes by you will most likely need any update that includes updates to the premium plugins included in your theme (e.g., Revolution Slider, Visual Composer).
Real User Smoke Testing
A developer will quickly test your site for errors after upgrading and rollback changes if necessary.
Spam Comment Cleanup
Review and delete spam comments on your site. We will also tweak your settings for you to reduce the amount of spam comments and trackbacks you receive.
Database Optimization
We optimize your data tables to improve performance without modifying the existing indexes.
This services does not include index evaluation, creation, tuning, or optimization. Please call if you need this service.
Discounted Developer Rates
Our maintenance packages can not be used for ongoing development efforts, changes, or additions to your site unless it would help remove malware or resolve an issue upgrading a stubborn theme or plugin.
Here are just some of the WordPress tasks that we can handle for you at a discounted rate:
- Adding and configuring new plugins
- Making changes to theme files
- Adding new pages, posts, or widgets
- Adding or updating existing pages, posts, or widgets
- Website migrations
- Uploading, re-sizing, or rotating pictures
- Adding or updating products in your online store
- Installing and configuring Google Analytics
- Installing and configuring Google or Bing Webmaster Tools
Developer hours need to be coordinated and scheduled in advance and have a clear project definition.
Examples of some things not available at a discounted developer rate:
- Server maintenance and upgrades (e.g., upgrading Linux to the latest version)
- Installing and configuring a TLS/SSL certificate
- Creating new email addresses for your staff
- Graphic design
- Database development
- Computer repair and networking
We can still do these things for you however will not be discounted.
Monthly Reports
We send out reports weekly or monthly that list any changes made to your site’s theme or plugins.
E-Commerce Stores
Due to their complexity we charge an additional fee to update and maintain e-commerce websites.
Daily Off-Site Backups
One of the simplest things you can do to secure your website is back it up to a different location off-site.
If your site gets infected with malware you can quickly see which files were changed and restore the good version from the off-site backup.
We “pull” your backups from your server instead of “pushing” them. Plugins that push backups to third-party locations are vulnerable once the site has been compromised because the attacker has access to your backups as well.
Off-Site Backups
We backup your WordPress files and database every day to a secure server. You or your developer can restore the entire site or just a few files. We also use these backups to rollback in case of a major problem during the upgrade process.
Please note that e-Commerce sites are more difficult to restore and require developer hours to get the website back to a usable and consistent state.
Dashboard
We provide a backup dashboard where you can view your backups and download or restore them at will.
Email Alerts
Get email alerts on what files changed since the last backup.
30-Day Retention
We will keep your backups for a minimum of 30 days.
Developer Access
Give your developer limited access to download and restore files but not delete backups.
4 GB Disk Space
If your site is 3.5 GB it will be backed up every day and still be under the 4 GB limit.
WordPress Security Monitoring
We run an initial security scan to see if there are any viruses or malware on your site. Then we install and configure security plugin(s) per best practices so that your site is secure.
If your site is already infected we charge a one-time flat fee to clean the infection and get your site running again.
Security Plugin Setup and Configuration
Install one or more security plugins and implement best practices for hardening your WordPress site.
Virus/Malware Scanning
Checks your site for viruses or malicious code. If malware is found that can’t easily be cleaned through a file or database restore then cleanup services are offered at a discounted rate.
File Change Monitoring
Monitors your site for malicious changes to your files.
Virus/Malware Cleanup
Discounted developer hours can be used to clear up virus or malware infections however if the site is secure and up-to-date then the problem is likely somewhere else (e.g., insecure FTP password, insecure WordPress password, custom plugin hasn’t been updated).
Uptime & Response Time Monitoring
If your site is on a slow server (*cough* GoDaddy *cough*) then you’re losing customers. But how do you know?
With our uptime and response time monitoring you’ll have a baseline report to determine if you need to move hosts.
Monitor Uptime
Checks your site every 5 minutes from multiple locations. Foreign locations can be disabled if you are not targeting those markets.
Monitor Response Time
Checks your site every 5 minutes from multiple locations (First Time to Byte).
Monthly Uptime/Response Reports
View reports on your uptime and response time to show your hosting provider.
Monitor Domain Expiration
An extra check to ensure that your domain doesn’t expire.
Email Alerts
Downtime incidents are emailed to you.
SMS (Text) Alerts
Downtime incidents are sent to your phone (limited number of texts per month).
Search Engine Keyword Monitoring
We use SEMrush or SEOprofiler to provide a weekly or monthly report on your keyword progress.
Monitor 50 keywords
Monitor up to 50 keywords or phrases to see how well your target terms are doing over a period of time.
Keyword Position Report
Get a report each week or month that shows you the performance of your keywords and how much they increased or decreased as a result of your marketing and SEO efforts.
Monthly SEO Audit
The monthly SEO audit report will show you where you are missing alt tags, description tags, where your meta information is too long or too short, pages that are missing key SEO items, and much more.
Need help fixing the items in your SEO audit? Contact us for help fixing your SEO problems.
Application Performance Monitoring
Application Performance Monitoring is used to gather more details about the performance of your website than just First Type to Byte (FTTB). APM checks the full page load just like a user would and gives you valuable insight into your footprint.
Real User Monitoring (RUM)
RUM measures what a user experiences when they visit your site. You probably have lots of plugins and features on your site but you may not realize how much time each one of them takes. Your website may load just fine in the United States but what about countries outside of the U.S.? Each new feature or JavaScript load takes time – time that developing countries don’t have.
Critical Transaction Monitoring
Critical transaction monitoring is used to run through a process from beginning to end to make sure it’s working properly.
For example, a user would visit your home page, click pricing, click ‘Buy Now’, complete the cart process, and receive a ‘Thank You’ message. This service will monitor that process several times a day to ensure that it’s working.
Performance Recommendations
After reviewing your website response time, real user monitoring reports, and critical transaction reports we can offer some suggestions for you or your developer to improve your website speed without ruining the value of using a WordPress CMS.
